Assembly for Mr O Brien

We celebrated wonderful 40 years of Mr O Brien in our school. He has brought so much kindness and compassion to our students. His love of Gaelic Games has had such a positive impact on our school along with his passion for exploring nature, gardening and using the environment and the children’s interests to support their learning. Thank you for everything you have done for our school

Tommy and Sofiia

Today was Tommy's last day with us. Tommy is an amazing man who is well loved and respected by every member of our school community. He has taught all the children GAA skills throughout the year and they have come on so much throughout the year. Thanks so much for all your hard work Tommy.

We also say a fond farewell to Sofiia, our teacher from Ukraine. Sofiia has been such a wonderful support to the students who arrived this year from Ukraine and to the class teachers working with these students. We were so lucky to have you this year and we wish you well on your next adventure.

Wobble Circus

We were lucky enough for Wobble Circus to come to our school and visit 1st Class and 5th Class. The children got to explore with diablos, hat tricks, juggling, spinning plates, hoola hoops, feather wands and even got to go on the tightrope. We really enjoyed getting our creative juices flowing in a whole new way

Sports Day 2023

The children took part in our sports day on Friday 9th June. There were lots of races, activities and games taking place. Both children and staff had a fun filled day!

Seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Glas 2023

Bhí spórt agus spraoi ag gach duine sa scoil don Seachtain na Gaeilge!

Everyone in the school had great fun for Seactain na Gaeilge 2023 or should we say Coicís na Gaeilge as it really goes on for two weeks now. We have all been so busy and the children, as always made a huge effort to speak as Gaeilge throughout the school days. We had a huge raifil on the last day. Children earned as many ticéid as they could by speaking Gaeilge each day and the tickets all went into a big box for the raifil.

Each class took part in a Ceilí and once again were paired up with another class. The younger and older children mixed so well together.

But apart from all of these organised events, each teacher and class did lots of their own activities to embrace our Irish culture, be it amhráin, rainn, dánta nó damhsaí.

Have a look at some of the things that have been going on below.

To top it all off, we had a Lá Glas last Thursday 16ú Márta and a whoe school assembly where children performed Irish dancing, tin whistle, songs and even The Haca Gaelach!

Prizes were awarded from the raifil and one child in each class was given an award for Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine. It was a great day and some children even commented it was their favourite day of the year in St Fergal’s and many of the teachers would agree!

We have so many great events in St Fergal’s throughout the year but this is the day that we really get to celebrate our rich culture and heritage and everyone in the school really embraces it each year.

We are already looking forward to Seachtain na Gaeilge 2024!

World Book Day 2023

We had a great time for World Book Day this year. Our Book Fair was back for the first time since Covid so everyone was really delighted about that and lots of children bought new books to read.

We held an art competition. Each child was asked to design a book cover and the winning child from each class got to chooses a book for free.

We also paired a junior and senior class together for paired reading and the children really enjoyed the experience. It is such a joy to see the older children interacting with the younger ones.

Peace Proms February 2023

For the first time ever St Fergal’s School took part in an amazing cross border event called Peace Proms. The three 5th classes have been learning lots of songs and actions since September, to take part in a choir with hundreds of other schools. They went along to the RDS on Saturday 4th February and joined over a 1000 children from other schools to form the Peace Proms Choir. They were accompanied by a real symphony orchestra, professional singers, dancers and musicians. It was a goose bump moment for the children and teachers and we are just so proud of how well they represented the school. It was a once in a lifetime experience for the children and we intend to make it an annual event here at St Fergal’s.

Art For All Day 2022

We had great fun last week doing our annual Art For All Day. Every class in the whole school participated and by the end of the day the teachers were worn out and the children were covered in paint, clay, glue, wool and any other amount of art materials but each child had at least three pieces of Christmas themed artwork to show for it. It is always a highlight in the St Fergal’s School Calendar each year and it gets us all in the Christmas mood! Here are some pictures from the day.

The whole school gathered to share in her victory in the school yard and made a guard of honour for her ,wearing their Fearghal Og Jerseys. Many thanks to Ms Flynn’s 3rd class for their fabulous banner and to Mr O Brien and Ms Scanlon ( proud mother of Alannah) for organising the visit. Our Big Debut on RTE News2Day

Last week RTE cameras came in to film everyone in the school taking part in our annual Art For All Day. Micheál the reporter was accompanied by Micheál the camera man. They were so professional and friendly and they really made all of the children feel comfortable and safe in front of the camera. As soon as they left St Fergal’s, they headed back to RTE to edit their work and we were delighted to find out that the show would be airing that very evening at 4:20pm on RTE 2. A big thanks to the RTE News2Day for taking the time to visit our school.

We are so proud of all the children that took part, but specially those that were interviewed and represented our school so well.
